5 Most Beautiful Places in Denver

Denver is known as the Mile High City because it is one mile above sea level (how convenient is that?), making it one of the highest cities in the entire United States. The city sits in the South Platte River Valley, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains to the west and the High Plains to the east. For those who prefer to be more reflective, there are numerous museums and other activities to choose from.

1 The Mile High Stadium

Mile High Stadium has always been popular and well-known for hosting the Broncos – and even more so now that they have won another Super Bowl. In fact, the Broncos not only won consecutive Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998, but they also set all-time pro football records for most wins in two seasons (33), most playoff wins in two seasons (seven), and most wins in three seasons (46, from 1996 to 1998) while playing at Mile High Stadium.

2 Larimer Square

Take a stroll through Larimer Square, one of Denver’s most historic neighborhoods. Its history dates back to the nineteenth century when Colorado was all about gold and the famous gold strikes that helped put this lovely state on the map. The square was once home to many ‘firsts,’ including the city’s first bank, first dry goods store, first bookstore, first theatre, and first post office! Some of the old buildings remain, but the new ones are just as nice, and they house some fantastic restaurants and shops selling unusual and one-of-a-kind gifts.

3 Denver Public Library

I’m always happy to recommend good libraries; nothing beats losing myself in an hour or three of literary entertainment for me. You’ll feel the same way when you visit this massive library, which contains over 2 million items such as books, movies, DVDs, reference materials, and even photographs. There are numerous informative avenues to explore for those in the family interested in Western history and genealogy. And don’t forget about the little ones; with multiple children’s story time activities and a fantastic and well-designed kiddie’s area, everyone will be pleased.

4 Downtown Aquarium

This is the ideal destination for the entire family. With over a million gallons of water and over 500 species, an interactive Stingray Reef touch tank, a Dive Lounge, an Aquarium Restaurant, a Nautilus Ballroom, and much more, there is plenty to keep you busy. The aquarium is very well designed, and it is a fantastic way for young and old to learn about sea life while having fun together.

5 Children’s Museum of Denver

Since its humble beginnings in a converted school bus in 1973, this excellent museum has come a long way. Originally aimed at children aged newborn to eight years, it has evolved into a “must-see” destination for all ages, with the museum providing a variety of hands-on, unique, and engaging interactive opportunities such as woodworking, rocket launching, nature climbing & caves, and a grocery marketing station.
