How to Have a Royal Day Out in London
Home of the British monarchy, London is the perfect place to have a royal day out. So, without further ado, let us take a look at all the must-see royal sights in London, of which the first place on your agenda, of course, has to be Buckingham Palace.
Buckingham Palace
Stroll through one of the outstanding parks of London (Hyde Park) and you’ll soon come across Buckingham Palace, home to Her Majesty, the Queen of England. Coming from the park you’ll have a view of the palace gardens – especially enjoyable during the summer months. Not only is the palace itself exquisite, if you happen to be visiting at around 10:45 am on a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, but you may also witness the infamous Changing of the Guards. Try and count the windows of all 775 rooms or try your hand at taking a picture with one of the Queen’s Guards themselves.
St. James Park
If you still want a little more royalty after the guards have changed, take yourself over to St James Park where you’ll have a different view of Buckingham Palace and you’ll also be able to see the London Eye on the other side. If it views you’re interested in, how about a hotel in the city? There’s so much to do in London, you’re bound to need a place to rest your head before you’ve experienced it all. There are hotels galore around central London, you’ll be certain to find something just to your liking during your royal day.
St. Paul’s Cathedral
Back now to the architecture, if you walk along the Millennium Bridge (which itself is quite the experience) you’ll come across St. Paul’s Cathedral. Whether you consider yourself religious or not, this is not a place to be missed. With collections of cathedral art, talks, events, and various activities, everyone will find at least something to keep them entertained. The cathedral itself has been rebuilt five times, something to marvel at if nothing else.
The National Gallery
Right in the heart of London, The National Gallery contains some of the most popular paintings and pieces of art in the world. Not only is the inside of the Gallery renowned, but the building itself is its own historic piece of art, featuring free entry to the majority of exhibitions. Members gain free access to the entire gallery, and with such a multitude of things to see and do, it’s well worth considering becoming a member and returning again.
Richmond Park
Another of the royal parks that are worth visiting is Richmond Park. The park has protected status as an important habitat for wildlife and is London’s largest Site of Special Scientific Interest. If you are patient and watch closely enough you can spot deer, bats, fungi, grasses, wildflowers, numerous beetles, mammals, and some of the oldest and largest trees.
Being a little further from the hustle and bustle of city life, this park is a little quieter than the others, perfect for an evening of relaxation after your royal day out. Not to say relaxing is the only thing on offer at this park. King Henry’s Mound is just one of many exciting attractions you can visit whilst in and around Richmond Park.
And there you have it – everything you need to know in order to have a royally good day out in London.
