5 Must-Do Experiences For Your Australian Adventure
When you’re getting ready for a holiday to Australia, it can be difficult to plan your itinerary. After all, with so much to do and see, how do you narrow it down so that you can visit all the places you’re interested in over the course of a few days?
If you’re struggling to decide how to get the most out of your time in Australia, this guide is here to help. Here are five must-do experiences that you should schedule into your Australian adventure!
1. The Great Barrier Reef
The Great Barrier Reef is the world’s largest coral reef, and it’s not hard to see why so many people visit it every year. The reef is home to an array of marine life – in fact, ten percent of the entire planet’s fish population can be found here.
The best ways to see the reef up close are snorkelling and diving. If you’ve never done either of these before, you can still visit the reef, as snorkelling and diving tours are available for the inexperienced.
2. Sydney Harbour
Sydney Harbour is one of the most easily recognisable parts of Australia – you’ll almost certainly recognise it from postcards or from television and films. If you’re visiting Sydney, it’s definitely worth taking a trip to the harbour, so that you can say you’ve visited this iconic location in person.
If you’re wondering how you’ll travel between various destinations during your time in Australia, the answer is the Ghan train. The Ghan travels from Adelaide to Darwin, giving you the chance to experience the incredible Australian landscape while relaxing onboard the train and enjoying its numerous facilities.
3. Uluru
Uluru – which you may have heard referred to as Ayers Rock – is one of Australia’s best-known landmarks. Situated just a few hours from Sydney, this stunning natural wonder is 550 million years old and 348 metres high. The best way to see it up close is to walk around the base. While there are a number of walking trails, joining a guided tour is the best way to learn more about Uluru’s history, as well as find out about the local wildlife.
One of the best times to visit Uluru is at sunrise or sunset – the sunlight behind the red rock is an incredible sight.
4. The Blue Mountains
One destination that you might not have heard of – but one that is definitely worth visiting – is the Blue Mountains. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers, with miles of hiking trails to explore. You’ll also have the chance to see breathtaking sights such as the Three Sisters rock formation.
5. Kangaroo Island
Just off the coast of Adelaide lies Kangaroo Island. Much like the Blue Mountains, it’s a must-visit for anyone who wants to experience the natural wonders of Australia. As you’d expect, it’s an amazing place to see kangaroos in their natural habitat – specifically, you’ll see a species of kangaroo found only on the island. If you’re heading out to the island with the aim of spotting these unique animals, be aware that they are nocturnal. This means that the best time to see them is between late afternoon and very early in the morning.
