Two essays with three questions are written and marked by students for the cultural entertainment program to give students an insight into the host country. Labelling of works in a variety of languages is used so that the leader of each participating country can first mark his own student work. They hand over the paper to the translation team with a marker known as the country-appointed coordinator

Medals are awarded to the top half of the participating students. The score for the qualification has changed, but still stands at 260 out of 270 students who qualified for the Math Olympics this year.
