The modem is the device that helps you to connect your home network to the wider internet while the Router is the device that helps you to connect all your wired and wireless devices on one internet connection at the same time.

What is a Modem?

The modem is a small box device that helps you to connect your home network to wider internet without any wire. You can also call it the digital translator as it takes info from your device such as phones and connects it with your computer. The wireless Modem is of 3 types;

  1. Cable Modem
  2. Digital Subscriber line (DSL)
  3. Dial-Up

In the cable modem, the cables having the same axis are connected with the back of the Wireless Modem. It provides high-speed internet to the device connected with the wireless Modem. While the Digital Subscriber line (DSL) and Dial-Up function are almost the same. Digital Subscriber line (DSL) and Dial-Up are those cables that are connected with your phones.

What is a Router?

The router is also a small piece of device that lets you connect your all wired and wireless devices on one internet connection at the same time. Wi-Fi Routers are used in homes and offices. Four types of Routers are available.

  4. Edge Router
  • Wired Router

Wire Router is the type of Wi-Fi Router which is directly connected with the computer through the wire.

  • Wireless Router

  • Core Router

Core Router is the type of Wi-Fi Router that may be wired or wireless but cannot be used to share data on multiple devices.

  • Edge Router

Is the performance of Modem and Router is better while they are using together?

There is a great difference between a Modem and a Router. The modem is a small box device that helps you to connect your home network to the wider internet. Separately, both of the devices work better but if this internet Modem connects with the Wi-Fi Router it will slow down the system. While the Router is the box device in which you can connect all of your devices that may or may not be wired at the same time with the one internet connection.

Although the progress of the Cable Modem and Wi-Fi Router is not too good when both of the devices are using together but separately the performance of the Wi-Fi Router is better as compared to the internet modem.

Is there any difference between the Modem and a Router?

Modem Router is almost similar things but there is a difference between Router and Modem if we talk about the function of these devices. If you want to connect multiple networks at the same time on the same internet connection you will use the Wi-Fi Router device. But on the other hand Internet Modem is the small box device which is used when you want to connect your home network to the wider internet. At some points, Wi-Fi Modem is better than the Wi-Fi Router but the situation will become opposite in most of the points and the same point is that both of the devices are used for the internet. Apart from all this one more point is that it is better to have a separate Modem and Router use because together their performance is not much better.

Wi-Fi Router allows you to transfer the data from one device to the other device so it will help you to manage your data easily. And when we talk about the same function of the wireless Modem, it also allows you to transfer the info to your network from the internet. It is a digital translator as it takes info from your phone and connects it with your computer. Wireless Modem doesn’t have any security issue when you are transferring your data through this device to others which means Modem is safe for use and doesn’t cause any issues related to security. While on the other hand in the Router, firstly checked your information by the system and then transfer it to the device you shared with. So we are unable to say that the Modem and Router the same devices.

In Router, the cable used for the computer is RJ 45. Same in the case of Modem. This device also needs the RJ 45 but this is connected with the Router. The other cable which is used in the wireless Modem is J11 and this cable is connected with the Telephone.

In the Router, you do not need to access the internet. You simply transfer the data to the computer through the mentioned IP in the Router device.

In simple words, Wireless Modem is the internet provider and helps you to access the internet. The Wi-Fi Modem receives the signals from the devices and converts them to the digital form. These are some points that make a difference between a Modem and a Router.

All the above-mentioned points are the basic difference between router and modem. If you want a device that helps you to connect your home network to wider internet then choose Wireless Modem device but if you want a device that offers you to connect all your wired and wireless devices at the same time on one internet connection choose the Router.
